The Global Health Poster Session is a yearly event where UMass Chan students in the Global Health Pathway (GHP) showcase the learning and service activities that they did during their Global Health Immersion Experience which occurs in the six to eight weeks between their 1stand 2nd year of medical school training.
The poster session is typically held at UMass Chan in August of each year. Although the poster session is attended primarily by the new first year medical students so that they can learn about the GHP, medical students of all years, and all members of the UMass Chan community are welcome to attend.
Starting in 2014, the Global Health Poster Session was held in conjunction with the Activities Fair for 1st year medical students, and was part of the Summer Programs Poster Session which included posters from the following UMass Chan summer programs.
- Global Health Pathway (GHP)
- Medical Student Summer Research Program
- Curriculum Development Service Program
- Clinical Translational Research Program
- Community Assistantship Program
Poster Session Goals
- To help GHP students reflect on what they learned and gained from their Global Health Immersion Experience
- To educate other UMass Chan students and members of the UMass Chan community about the breadth of global health activities and opportunities that are available
- To identify a possible topic and project for the GHP student’s Capstone Scholarship & Discovery Course
- To provide students with an opportunity to network with other UMass Chan students and community members with similar interests, and to build communication & presentation skills
