Dr. Forkey, Dr. Morgan, Trauma Coach Diane Lanni and Medical Student Kara Banson presented at the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’s (AACAP) 66th Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. Dr. Morgan co-chaired the institute  “Impact of Child Maltreatment: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Role in Risk, Resiliency and Systems of Care.” During the forum, Dr. Forkey described how the developmental and behavioral symptoms of maltreatment evolve in the pediatric setting. She also called for more collaboration between pediatricians and child and adolescent psychiatrists, as pediatricians may  seek support when prescribing and deprescribing medications for children who have experienced maltreatment. Diane provided her lived experiences as a foster parent and as our trauma coach at FaCES, as a testimony for the need to invest in all foster parents. As an AACAP Summer Medical School Student Fellow, Kara shared how FaCES is trying to address the educational needs of kids in foster care during the poster session. She listened and learned from the perspectives of other trainees and clinicians who are facing similar challenges in their state.
