Anticoagulation Clinic

The Anticoagulation Clinic at UMass Memorial Medical Center is recognized as a Center of Excellence from the Anticoagulation Forum, a national organization. The clinic helps patients monitor and manage medications taken to prevent blood clots.

Many patients with conditions such as atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism or other hereditary conditions will require the use of anticoagulants, also called blood thinners, to prevent clots from forming.

Atrial Fibrillation Program Awarded Gold Achievement

Our program is the recipient of an American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines Gold Achievement Award for treating atrial fibrillation and implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association and Heart Rhythm Society. Hospitals receiving gold level have reached an aggressive goal of treating AFib patients with 85 percent or higher compliance to all standards for two or more consecutive years.

Electrophysiology Services

Electrophysiology (EP) studies are tests that look at the electric activity of your heart. Having an arrhythmia can be harmless or could cause serious consequences. Sometimes your heart will beat too fast or too slow or erratically. When this happens, blood doesn't flow through your body the right way, which can cause organs not to work properly. When you have an abnormal heart rhythm, called cardiac arrhythmia, doctors will request that an EP study be done to find out why and where the abnormal heartbeat is coming from.
