Alan Lim, MD - Walden House Mentor

imageb5ewt.pngDr. Alan Lim grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and received a BA in Biology and Anthropology from Franklin Marshall College. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed residencies in otolaryngology at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia, and plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School. He then finished a fellowship in craniomaxillofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at the University of California in Los Angeles.

Dr. Lim joined the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in 2012, after serving 21 years in the U.S. Navy. During Dr. Lim's military career, he served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and on the US Navy hospital ship USNS Mercy. As an assistant Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Dr. Lim held academic appointments in Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In Addition, he served for four years as the Physician Advisor for Process Improvement and member of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff at the Naval Medical Center. 

Dr. Lim is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at UMass Chan Medical School and Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM). As a faculty member of the Lahey Plastic Surgery Residency Program, he is responsible for the Craniomaxillofacial, Pediatric, and Head and Neck portions of the academic plastic surgery curriculum. From 2020 to 2024, Dr. Lim also served as a faculty facilitator of Problem Based Learning (PBL) groups and a Learning Community Coach at TUSM. Dr. Lim also has a strong interest in humanitarian work and has led numerous medical missions around the world aimed at treating children with facial birth deformities.

When not working, he loves spending time with his family in Brookline, MA, and enjoys travel, photography, and sampling the world's cuisiness.
