Kaitlyn Brokaw

Kaitlyn graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 2018 with a BS in biochemistry and a minor in philosophy & religion. Now in the Watts lab to pursue her PhD, she’s working on understanding the intricacies of cryptic splicing and whether sites of cryptic splicing could serve as potential points of therapeutic intervention. When she’s not at her bench or computer, she can be found painting while listening to a true crime podcast, engrossed in a novel, or playing a low-stakes video game. As the owner of 3 dogs, 1 cat, and 2 axolotls, she’s also an animal lover and spends much of her free time playing with and caring for her animals with the help of her husband. Post-PhD, Kaitlyn intends to branch out beyond the bench and pursue a career in intellectual property with a focus on biotechnology patent law.
