IoLong (Welles) Chan

Welles grew up in Macau before moving to the United States to further his education. He earned his BS at Hardin-Simmons University and his MS at the University of Houston–Clear Lake. In 2019, he completed his PhD. at UMass Chan Medical School in Dr. Oliver Rando’s lab, focusing on gene regulation during development in C. elegans. In 2020, he joined the Watts Lab to pursue his interest in nucleic acid therapeutics, where he is currently developing novel oligonucleotide platform technologies dedicated to targeting lung diseases. Outside of the lab, he founded the UMass Chan Consulting Club to engage with the business side of biotech and enjoys exploring culinary arts and music.
