Atish Wagh

Atish was born and raised in Maharashtra, India, where he developed a strong foundation in chemistry. He earned both a BS and MS from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, and later pursued a PhD. in Chemical Sciences at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. His doctoral research focused on the chemical modification of thrombin-binding aptamers and their biophysical analysis. In 2022, Atish joined the Watts Lab to further explore his interest in nucleic acids. His work centers on developing novel backbone modifications, synthesis techniques, and enhanced purification strategies for long oligonucleotides, with the aim of improving their therapeutic efficacy. Atish is also a specialist in the synthesis and purification of sgRNA and pegRNA. Outside of the lab, he enjoys cinematic experiences, swimming, playing cricket, and the hands-on satisfaction of fixing and tinkering with appliances and instruments.
