Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences!

We are the youngest department at the UMass Chan Medical School. Our senior faculty are quantitative methodologists who lead health-related research programs.  About half of our senior faculty are physicians as well. We have a passion for the science of moving from discovery to improving individual and population health. Part of our mission is to develop and train the next generation of researchers with whom to share our  passion. We believe in science that makes a difference, collective creativity, and social justice through improved health. We also house a Quantitative Methods Core (QMC) in collaboration with the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design (BERD) component of the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) that provides consultative services in biostatistics, epidemiology, health informatics, preventive and behavioral medicine among others. We have several series of meetings open to the campus community, ranging from formal presentations through informal “just-in-time” nascent idea discussions. Please browse our website to find more detailed information on us.
