Mitchell Gitkind Accepts Position as Director of Health Systems Science Education within the Division of Health Systems Science
The Department of Medicine and Division of Health Systems Science are pleased to announce that Mitchell Gitkind, MD, professor of medicine in the Divisions of Gastroenterology and Health Systems Science, has accepted the position of director of Health Systems Science Education. Dr. Gitkind has been functioning in a related interim role since January 2024.
Dr. Gitkind is a UMass Chan Medical School graduate, professor of medicine, and gastroenterologist, who also serves as a faculty co-chair for the UMass Chan Interprofessional Trainee Quality Council and co-director of the Faculty Quality Collaborative. Dr. Gitkind brings considerable expertise in Health Systems Science to the position. He served as assistant dean for Health Systems Science at UMass Chan from 2004-2019, and as associate chief quality officer/associate chief medical officer for UMass Memorial Medical Center from 2010-2018. In addition, Dr. Gitkind is a highly accomplished medical educator, awarded the UMass Chan Medical School Educational Star in 2020 and recognized as a “Distinguished Educator” by the UMass Chan Health Education Academy for Leadership and Learning (HEALL) in 2024.
In his role as Director of Education, Dr. Gitkind will lead, develop, implement, and disseminate Division of Health Systems Science educational initiatives.
