Bonnie Cao, MD
Bonnie Cao did her undergraduate studies at Bowdoin College where she majored in Biochemistry and Asian Studies. She then attended University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry for medical school. She returned to New England for med-peds residency at UMass. After residency, she joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a hospitalist.
Sanjay Chainani, MD
A lifelong Marylander, Sanjay attended undergraduate at the University of Maryland, College Park and medical school at University of Maryland, Baltimore prior to coming to Worcester in 2019 to join the UMass Med/Peds residency. His main research interests are in health outcomes and equity, and improving the palliative skillsets of providers and trainees in the hospital setting. He ultimately hopes to become a med/peds hospitalist with a focus on adult and pediatric palliative care. He is a rising Pediatric chief resident at UMass and is looking forward to growing as a teacher, clinician, and academician as he applies to fellowship.
Daniel Marchuk, MD
Daniel grew up in North Carolina completing his undergraduate studies in mathematics at Davidson College. He worked in bioinformatics and clinical genetic research prior to attending medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then moved to Massachusetts for the UMass Med-Peds Residency in 2019. After residency, he started fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital in pediatric nephrology.
Samantha (Samm) Rosenblum, MD
Samm came to the UMass med-peds program after graduating from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2019. Prior to this she attended undergrad at Northwestern University, where she studied journalism and global health studies. She served as academic chief resident during her time at UMass. Following residency, she began fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Boston Medical Center.
2022
David Chiang, MD, PhD
David came to the UMass MedPeds residency in 2018 from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. An MD/PhD, he was determined to continue doing research while seeing patients, which he was able to do through "the multitude of elective opportunities the program gave me." Despite being a California native, he survived the winters of the East Coast and loved every minute of it. He is now an Adult Gastroenterology fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as on an NIH T32 track, where he will see patients (in both Pediatrics and Adult GI), have dedicated time to do research, and hopes to ultimately treat and research IBD across the ages.
Arjun Kumar, MD
Arjun attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2010. Thereafter, he worked in the supply chain industry for 4 years optimizing and developing solutions for warehouses. He completed medical training at Augusta University at the University of Georgia (formerly Medical College of Georgia) and joined in 2018 at UMass for internal medicine-pediatrics training. He started a hospitalist role at Duke Raleigh Hospital in North Carolina, and plans to pursue a mixed primary care and hospitalist role.
William Mitchell, MD, MS
Will attended Clemson University where he completed a BS is Biological Sciences. After, he completed an MS in Human Nutrition at Columbia University and his MD at the University of South Carolina. He finished Med/Peds residency in 2022, where he served as chief before starting a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Emory University/Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He plans on a career in bone marrow transplants for young adults and children.
Harun Thimmiah, MD
Harun is a Worcester native who graduated from the College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Chemistry, followed by a Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Clark University while teaching middle school at the Nativity School of Worcester. He then attended medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. After completing Med/Peds Residency in 2022, he accepted a role serving as a categorical chief in Pediatrics. Afterwards, he plans to pursue a career in Cardiovascular Disease.
2021
Sheyla Candido, MD
Sheyla attended MCPHS for undergrad and then completed medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2017. After graduating from the UMass Med/Peds residency in 2021, Sheyla joined the faculty at MGH as a hospitalist.
Christopher Driscoll, MD
Christopher graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in Applied Mathematics and went on to study medicine at the University at Buffalo. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Umass in 2021 and will be staying for a categorical chief year in Pediatrics. Afterwards, he plans to pursue a career in Med/Peds primary care.
Jeannine Jeha, DO
Jeannine is a New England native who graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Health. While in Boston, she worked for several years as a Health teacher in the public high school system. She went farther north to Maine, where she attended University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing Med/Peds Residency, she started fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at UMass.
Jay Kachoria, MD
Jay graduated from the University of Michigan in 2013 majoring in Neuroscience. Afterwards, he attended Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester Hills, MI graduating in 2017. After completing residency in 2021, he moved to Durham, North Carolina to begin working as an adult hospitalist at Duke.
2020
Charlotte Delaney, MD
Charlotte graduated from Williams College in 2006 with a BA in Music and Psychology. After college, she earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at NYU and she spent a few years auditioning and performing in and around NYC. After completing her post-baccalaureate classes, Charlotte earned her MD at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2016 and then completed her Med-Peds residency at UMass in 2020. She and her co-resident Emily Levoy spent much of their residency making musical parody videos. Charlotte now works in Hopkinton doing primary care.
Emily Levoy, MD
Emily studied Neuroscience at Brown University for her undergraduate education. She then went to medical school at University of Massachusetts, where she was thrilled to stay for her Internal Medicine/ Pediatrics residency. After graduating residency in 2020, she went on to Pediatric Hospital Medicine fellowship at Stanford, planning to pursue a career in internal medicine/ pediatrics hospital medicine with an academic focus on physician well-being.
Aleena Paul, MD, MBA
Aleena attended Union College, studying biology and sociology as part of the Leadership in Medicine Program. She completed an MBA in Healthcare Management from Union Graduate College. She joined the UMass Med/Peds residency program after completing medical school at Albany Medical College. After graduating residency in 2020, Aleena entered a General Academic Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Fellowship, with a focus on Medical Education, at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Laura Ting, MD
Laura studied Chemistry and Economics as an undergraduate at Williams College. She worked in clinical research on asthma epidemiology at Harvard and BWH before attending UMass Chan Medical School. After graduating from residency in 2020, she stayed in central MA to begin practicing primary care.
2019
Cindy Chen, MD
Cindy studied biology as an undergraduate at MIT. After college, she worked for three years at MGH in clinical research on HIV+ patients with metabolic dysfunction. She attended Rosalind Franklin University/Chicago Medical School and returned to Massachusetts for residency. After completing her Med/Peds residency training at UMass, Cindy began practicing Med/Peds Primary Care at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, MA.
Natalya Maharaj, MD
Natalya graduated from Wellesley College in 2009, completing a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Chemistry. She subsequently worked at the New England Primate Research Center while earning an MPH at Boston University. She returned to her home state of Florida to attend medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine. After graduating from the UMass Med/Peds residency in 2019, Natalya joined the faculty at Baystate Medical Center as a Med/Peds hospitalist, splitting her time equally between both specialties.
Kathryn Salvatore, MD
Katie attended the University of Minnesota, studying biology and Psychology in undergraduate and stayed for medical school. After completing residency in 2019 at UMass, she went on to practice Med/Peds Primary Care in St. Paul, MN.
Ravi Shah, MD
Ravi graduated from The College of New Jersey with degrees in biology and economics. He completed medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2015 and then Internal Medicine-Pediatrics residency at UMass in 2019. He joined the Penn State Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship upon graduating residency.

Emily Chen, MD
Emily is a 2018 graduate of the UMass Med/Peds program. She also attended medical school at UMass after completing her undergraduate work at Tufts University. She is currently practicing Med/Peds Primary Care at Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, MA.
Anna Chin, MD MPH
Anna graduated from Carnegie Mello University with a BS in Biology, and then completed a Masters of Public Health program at Dart,mouth College. After working for a year at the White River Junction VA in Vermont, she returned to her native home Massachusetts to complete both medical school and residency at UMASS. After graduating in 2018, she entered Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship at Brown Medical School.
Christopher Lops, MD
Originally from California, Chris attended the College of the Holy Cross where he earned his undergraduate degree. He went on to attend Albany Medical College. He returned to Worcester for his Med/Peds residency where he served as Chief, graduated in 2018, and stayed as a Pediatrics Chief Resident before starting work as a Med/Peds Hospitalist in Cape Cod, MA.
Apurva Subbaswamy, MD
Apurva attended Grinnell College in Iowa for undergrad, followed by medical school at the University of Kentucky. She graduated from the UMass Med-Peds Program in 2018 after which she returned home to Lexington, KY to begin practicing Med-Peds Primary Care.

Adam Beitscher, MD
Adam spent his undergraduate years at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and attended medical school at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Upon graduating in 2017, Adam stayed on as a hospitalist and now practices in Colorado.
Robin Felker, MD
Robin attended the University of North Carolina including a graduate degree in Chemistry at the University of Cambridge in England. She then returned to the University of North Carolina to complete medical school. Upon graduating in 2017, Robin joined the Med/Peds residency program at Georgetown as a faculty member.
Kevin Jillson, MD
Kevin obtained his undergrad degree at WPI in Worcester MA. He stayed in Worcester to attend UMass where he completed medical school and the med/peds residency. Upon graduating in 2017, Kevin went on to a Sports Medicine fellowship in Portland OR.
Andrew Willment, MD
Andrew completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh then attended medical school at Emory University. Upon graduation in 2017, Andrew joined Med/Peds Primary Care practice in Hopkinton MA.
2016
Lauren Andrade, MD
Lauren attended Holy Cross in Worcester, MA for her undergraduate degree, and completed medical school and residency at UMass. Upon graduating in 2016, began fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Anna Bingham, MD
Anna attended Harvard University, majoring in History of Science. Upon graduating from undergrad, she spent four years volunteering in a rural health clinic in Hickory Flat, Mississippi before returning to Massachusetts for medical school and residency training at UMass. Upon graduating in 2016, Anna began practicing Med/Peds Primary Care in Western Massachusetts.
Minakshi Biswas, MD
Minakshi studied bioinformatics at Wellesley College, and after college, she worked at a pharmaceutical company developing “armed” anti-cancer monoclonal antibody therapeutics. She attended medical school and residency at UMass. Minakshi also served as chief resident for 2 years. Upon graduating in 2016, Minakshi entered an Adult Cardiology fellowship at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Suzanne Sprague, MD
Suzanne studied Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University before moving to New York City to work as a financial consult. After a career change, Suzanne attended medical school at Tufts University and residency at UMass. Upon graduating in 2016, Suzanne served as a categorical Pediatric Chief Resident before joining the med/peds residency clinic as a faculty member and preceptor in 2017.
2015
Salmaan Jawaid, MD
Salmaan completed his Biology degree at the University of Houston. He then moved to West Virginia to attend medical school at Marshall University. Upon graduation in 2015, Salmaan began an adult GI fellowship at UMass.
Marie "Lana" Kieras, MD
Lana completed her undergraduate education at Holy Cross, and attended medical school at UMass. She completed her residency in 2015, and is working in Med/Peds Primary Care in Connecticut.
Brian Schneider, MD
A graduate of Brown University and University of Buffalo Medical School, Brian completed his Med/Peds residency in 2015. After graduation he completed a Sports Medicine fellowship in Colorado and then returned to Hopkinton MA to practice med/peds primary care.
Carla Schwartz, MD
Carla attended Cornell University as an undergrad, and earned her medical degree from SUNY Upstate. Upon graduating from residency in 2015, she began serving as a Categorical Pediatric Chief resident for one year at UMass. Carla is now practicing Med/Peds Primary Care in Upstate New York.
2014
Katherine Baldwin, MD
A graduate from Cornell Univeristy, where she studied English, Katherine enrolled in medical school at UMass. As a medical student, she developed a strong interest in gastroenterology, particularily IBD. This interest continued and deepened during residency at UMass, and after graduating in 2014, Katherine entered a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at MGH. She is now practicing gastroenterology across the age range.
Jeffrey "Jay" Lawrence, MD
Jay studied psychology and film at UMass Amherst as an undergraduate. While a medical student at UMass, he became active in public health education, health policy, and global health. He continued to pursue these interests while in residency at UMass. Upon graduating in 2014, he accepted an academic Med/Peds position in Columbus, Ohio that allows him to integrate patient care, QI, LEAN and health policy into his work.
Stephanie Lawrence, MD
Stephanie studied bio-psychology as an undergrad at Tufts before entering medical school at UMass. During residency at UMass, Stephanie developed an interest in transitional medicine that complimented her exceptional patient advocacy skills. Upon graduating in 2014, she accepted an academic Med/Peds position in Columbus Ohio and is involved in developing a transitional program and curriculum there.
Heather Mane, MD
Heather completed her undergraduate degree at UMass Amherst before entering medical school at UMass in Worcester. She remained at UMass for her Med/Peds residency training. Upon graduating in 2014, Heather entered a Med/Peds Primary Care practice in Londonderry, NH.
2013
Stacey Beberman, MD
Stacey attended Connecticut College as an undergraduate, and worked in Washington, DC, doing breast cancer research at the NIH. She returned to Worcester to attend medical school and Med/Peds residency at UMass. Since her graduation in 2013, she been practicing Med/Peds primary care in central Massachusetts.
Christine Bielick, MD
Chris received her BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin. She attended Tufts University School of Medicine and completed Med/Peds residency training at UMass in 2013. After completing an Adult Critical Care / Pulmonology fellowship at UMass, she joined our faculty.
Michael Mazzotta, MD
Mike attended Middlebury College in Vermont where he studied chemistry. After working in a microbiology lab studying Lyme disease, Mike began medical school at UMass. He graduated from the Med/Peds residency program in 2013. He is currently practicing Med/Peds primary care in Washington state.
Stephen Weinberger, MD
Steve attended SUNY Binghamton and earned a double major in Biology and English. He attended medical school at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse where he pursued his interest in international medicine while working at a clinic in the Peruvian Andes. He continued exploring that interest during residency at UMass where he participated in the Global Health Track. Upon residency graduation in 2013, Steve worked with underserved populations in Peru before returning to the States to pursue a career in Med/Peds Primary Care in Washington state.
2012
Bryon Gentile, MD
Bryon earned his undergraduate degree from Providence College, where he studied the molecular basis of osteosarcoma and Paget's Disease. Following graduation, he attended medical school at Penn State before completing his residency at UMass in 2012, including 2 years as chief resident. Bryon joined the faculty at UMass after completing his Adult Cardiology fellowship here in 2015.
Mythili Ransdell, MD
Mythili studied French and Economics while an undergrad at Georgetown. She attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh before pursuing her residency training at UMass. She graduated from residency in 2012 and is currently practicing Med/Peds Primary Care in Massachusetts.
Michael Sylvia, MD
Mike studied Biology at Providence College and obtained at Master's Degree from Boston University before enrolling in medical school at UMass. He stayed at UMass for residency (graduated in 2012) and then entered a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at UNC.
Kathleen Townes, MD
After completing undergrad at Harvard, Katie spent time at Dana-Farber studying HIV pathogenesis before enrolling in medical school at UMass. Katie stayed on at UMass for residency and upon graduation in 2012 she joined the Lahey Clinic in Ipswich, MA where she is practicing Med/Peds Primary Care.

Jen Barkley, MD
Jen went to college at Yale, before completing medical school and residency at UMass. Upon graduating from residency in 2011, Jen relocated to San Diego, where she is currently practicing Med/Peds Primary Care.
Tamara "Tammie" Chang, MD
Tammie completed Brown University's 8-year medical program prior to completing her med/peds training at UMass in 2011. After completing a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at St. Jude’s Research Center in Tennessee, Tammie moved to Oregon to begin practicing.
Will Hanna, MD
A 2011 residency graduate, Will first attended Marshall University as an undergraduate and then the University of Kentucky for medical school. He then completed a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and is practicing in the Midwest.
Erin O'Hara, MD
Erin attended Assumption College in Worcester for her undergraduate degree and then UMass for medical school and residency (2011 graduate). She is currently practicing primary care for both adults and children in central Massachusetts.
2010
Eugene Boss, MD
Eugene "Geno" Boss spent his undergraduate years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and attended medical school at UMass. Upon graduating in 2010, Geno began practicing Med/Peds Primary Care at the Lahey Clinic in Ipswich, MA.
Brigid McKenna Carlson, MD
Brigid received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Georgetown and attended medical school at UMass. A 2010 residency graduate, she completed an Adult Cardiology fellowship at UMass in 2013. She is currently a UMass faculty member in the Cardiology department.
Dave Fish, MD
Earned his undergraduate degree at Providence College and then attended UMass Chan Medical School. Dave graduated in 2010 and served as Pediatric Chief Resident for the 2010-2011 academic year. He is currently UMass’s first Med/Peds trained hospitalist to practice in both Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. He splits his time equally between the two specialties.
Mona Hinrichsen, MD
After graduating from Trinity undergraduate in San Antonio, Texas, Mona attended medical school at Texas A&M. She graduated from UMass' Med/Peds residency in 2010 and began practicing Med/Peds Primary Care in Spencer, MA. Recently, Mona transitioned her career to include hospitalist medicine.
2009
Robin Mayfield, MD
Robin received her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore and went on to attend Harvard Medical School. Upon graduation from Harvard, she began her training in general surgery at UCSF before coming to UMass to ultimately complete her Med/Peds residency in 2009. She is currently conducting research and practicing med/ped primary care in the Boston area.
Rachel Vuolo, MD
After graduating from Yale, Rachel matriculated to UMass for medical school and her Med/Peds residency. Upon graduating in 2009, Rachel began practicing Med/Peds primary care in Marlborough MA and is an active faculty member specializing in teaching residents the chronic pain/opiate curriculum.
Heather Young, MD
Heather attended UMass Chan Medical School after graduating from Brown University. While in residency she developed a keen interest in infectious disease, which ultimately lead her to a fellowship in Colorado upon her graduation in 2009.
2008
Kenneth Fowler, MD
Ken attended Williams College and the Medical University of South Carolina. After obtaining his MD, he completed a family medicine residency in Maine, but his desire to learn more led him to complete Med/Peds training at the University of Massachusetts. Ken graduated in 2008 and is currently practicing pediatric primary care in Massachusetts.
Kanao Otsu, MD
Kanao attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon and then matriculated to Ben Gurion University / Columbia University's Medical School of International Health. She also received her MPH in Environmental Health from Columbia University. Kanao graduated in 2008 and completed an Allergy fellowship at National Jewish Hospital in 2012.
Hui Sun, MD
After completing his medical degree in China, Hui attended the University of Tennessee Health Science Center where he earned his PhD in pharmacology. He then worked at the University of Massachusetts Medical School as a research faculty for several years before entering the Med/Peds residency program. Hui graduated from the program in 2008 and is currently practicing as an adult medicine hospitalist at UMass' Milford Hospital.
2007
David Carlson, MD
A 2007 Med/Peds residency graduate, Dave attended College of the Holy Cross in Worcester where he obtained his undergraduate degree before enrolling at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Upon completing his Med/Peds residency, Dave served as Pediatric Chief Resident for the 2007-2008 academic year. He is currently practicing Med/Peds Primary Care in Hopkinton MA.
Paula Kue, MD
Paula graduated from our program in 2007. She came to us after studying at Johns Hopkins University and Albany Medical College. She is currently practicing Med/Peds primary care in Massachusetts.
2006
Brad Drabant, MD
An alumnus of Boston College and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Brad served as our Med/Peds Chief Resident for two years before graduating in 2006. He completed a neonatology fellow at UMass, and is currently practicing neonatology in Las Vegas, NV.
Lynda Nguyen, MD
A graduate of the University of Colorado and Albany Medical College, we were fortunate that Lynda chose medicine instead of a career in art. Upon graduating in 2006, Lynda and her family moved back home to Colorado where she is working as a Med/Peds hospitalist.
Patrick O'Beirne, MD
Our only native Mississippian, Patrick attended Catholic University in Washington, DC, then received a public health degree in England before attending the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. A 2006 residency graduate, Patrick completed a fellowship in adult cardiology at UMass in 2010 and is currently practicing in New Jersey.
2005
Chenyi Lin, MD, PhD
Chenyi attended medical school and completed a full internal medicine residency in China before coming to the US to earn his PhD in Biochemistry from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. After completing his Med/Peds residency in 2005, he completed an Endocrinology fellowship at UMass and cares for both adults and children.
Annie Seapan, MD
Annie came to us from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a strong sense of patient advocacy and love of teaching that blossomed during residency. A 2005 graduate, she is currently a faculty member of the Med/Peds program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and practices Med/Peds primary care.
John "Jay" Shackelford, DO
A 2005 graduate, Jay had an incredibly eclectic professional life (realtor, prison counselor, nurse) before attending Missouri's University Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has now achieved his professional dream and is currently providing Med/Peds primary care on Cape Cod.
Gunjan Sharma, MD
A participant in the prestigious international medical student exchange program, Gunjan personally participated in the world's largest vaccination drive to immunize 150 million Indian children against polio and then graduated from Rostov Medical University in Russia. A 2005 graduate of our Med/Peds residency, Gunjan is a community Med/Peds Primary Care provider.
2004
Rebecca L. Moles, MD
Becky attended the University of Rochester and received a BA in Health and Society. She stayed in upstate New York and attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, then came to UMass in 2000 for her Med/Peds residency and served as Med/Peds Chief Resident during her final two years. She completed a Child Abuse Pediatrics fellowship at Brown University and is currently practicing in Connecticut.
2003
Nils Hoernle, MD
A 2003 graduate, Nils attended Washington University and the University of Kansas Medical School. An accomplished researcher, he helped to sequence the gene promotor involved in Factor IX deficiency, a condition he suffered from during childhood. He is currently practicing primary care south of Boston.
2002
Megan Douglas, MD, MPH
Originally from California, Megan attended Georgetown University and Tulane School of Medicine before graduating from our Med/Peds program in 2002. She started her career in academic medicine here at UMass Memorial and was active in the residency program, serving as Assistant Program Director for two years. Megan is now practicing community Med-Peds at the Rehoboth-Seekonk Medical Center in southern Massachusetts.
Pete Meaney, MD
A 2002 graduate of our program, Pete graduated from the University of Virginia and the Medical College of Virginia. While a resident, he began pursuing a Masters of Public Health from Harvard, a degree which he completed during his fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Elizabeth Boyle, MD
A 2001 graduate of our program, Elizabeth is also a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She is currently a faculty member at Baystate Medical Center where she practices primary care Med/Peds and is extensively involved in the teaching of residents.
Paulo Oliveira, MD
Having completed our Med/Peds program in 2001, Paulo is a gifted teacher and also served a year as a chief resident in Medicine. A graduate of Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he is currently a faculty member in adult Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UMass.

Anne Murray-Chiriboga, MD
Currently practicing primary care Med/Peds in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Anne is a graduate of Cornell University, the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and a 2000 graduate of the Med/Peds residency. She and her husband have also spent considerable time providing health care in Ecuador.
