Faculty Fostering Inclusive Excellence

The Faculty Fostering Inclusive Excellence (FFIE) community engages and educates faculty across basic science departments to promote diversity, equity and inclusion through faculty and student mentoring, faculty recruiting, and graduate admissions in the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

If you are not part of FFIE, why not join us now? It’s a great community, with active and engaging discussions and voluntary participation in support of critical DEI initiatives and activities on our campus. Please use this Google form to sign up and indicate your interests.

FFIE is a grassroots faculty community formed by Mary Munson, PhD, professor of biochemistry & molecular biotechnology and vice chair of diversity for the department, and several faculty across multiple departments and programs, with encouragement and support from the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences leadership and staff.

The mission of FFIE is to engage and educate Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences faculty to promote diversity, equity and inclusion on our campus, in our labs and in our broader scientific communities. FFIE activities aim to convey to Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences faculty at large information about prevailing conditions and concerns in the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and about ongoing efforts to address disparities. FFIE also strives to stimulate broad faculty engagement with current and future campus DEI activities, in part by identifying and addressing gaps in faculty engagement through discussions and workshops.

These task forces were formed to engage faculty in FFIE mission:

  • Mentoring in our labs and workspaces
  • Graduate recruitment and admissions
  • Faculty recruitment
  • Faculty mentoring, development, and retention
