The Office of Communications is the official source of news and information at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It is staffed by an outstanding team of communication professionals who are committed to telling the stories of UMMS. The OC supports and promotes the Medical School’s pioneering advances in medical education, biomedical research and innovative health care delivery and public service programs through a strategic integration of multimedia storytelling, targeted media relations and brand management. Stories highlighting people, research, accomplishments and impact of the Medical School can be seen daily at UMassMedNow, an interactive media news site, or in UMass Med magazine, published three times a year.

UMass Medical School reflects on life of Pete Frates, ‘a true champion’

Chancellor Michael F. Collins and the UMass Medical School community acknowledge with sadness the passing of Pete Frates, who raised millions of dollars for ALS research and whose indefatigable spirit remains an inspiration to all who work tirelessly to find a therapy for this disease. According to a statement from his family, Frates died on Monday, Dec. 9, at age 34.
