Researching recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy vectors for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT). Focusing on dual-function AAV vector to augment wild-type (M-AAT) with simultaneous mutating (AAT (Z-AAT) knockdown in a transgenic mouse model. My other focus is on NSG-PiZ humanized mouse model to provide a platform for future studies of both cell based and genetic therapies of AAT deficiency.

BSc: Genetics, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil (2013)

Expertise in molecular biology, immunology and pulmonary physiology, working mainly on the following topics: gene therapy, adeno-associated virus vectors (AAVs), nanoparticles, asthma, inflammation, fibrosis and pulmonary mechanics. Currently researching on gene therapy for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) using dual-function AAV vectors to promote simultaneous wild-type (M-AAT) overexpression and mutant AAT (Z-AAT) silencing as a treatment for both emphysema and liver diseases in transgenic mice and ferret models.
