Dr. Kate Fitzgerald delivers opening remarks for the iCAP research symposium and celebration

iCAP Faculty recognized with First Annual iCAP Research Symposium and Celebration

On June 29th, 2023, scientists and campus leaders gathered for the First Annual iCAP Research Symposium and Celebration, held in the Albert Sherman Center.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Kate Fitzgerald, the Associate Vice Provost for Basic Science Research, Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Innate Immunity, and Worcester Foundation Chair in Biomedical Sciences. Following Dr. Fitzgerald's remarks, nine iCAP faculty delivered the following five-minute flash talks about their research:

  • Dr. Accalia Fu: Sweet Solutions: Glucose metabolism pathways that safeguard islets against inflammation
  • Dr. Matthew Hemming: Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma is driven by ASPSCR1:TFE3-dependent and therapeutically targetable transcriptional programs
  • Dr. Fiachra Humphries: Defining the role of fumarate in neuron cell death
  • Dr. Ana Maldonado-Contreras: Food as Therapy
  • Dr. Jason Pitarresi: Collateral amplification of the KRAS-linked gene PTHLH governs pancreatic cancer growth and metastasis and reveals a new therapeutic vulnerability
  • Dr. Zaida Ramirez-Ortiz: SCARF1 in the inflammatory response
  • Dr. Apurv Soni: Novel applications of digital medicine to accelerate translational research pipeline
  • Dr. Jessica Spinelli: Unlocking the potential of the mammalian electron transport chain
  • Dr. Guocai Zhong: RNA switch regulation of CRISPR-Cas for AAV-delivered in vivo gene editing

Participants then gathered for a networking reception.
