Meet four of the veterans who will get their care from the community-based outpatient clinic for veterans opening on the UMass Chan Medical School campus.

UMass Chan Medical School exceeded diversity hiring goals in the construction of the newly completed community-based outpatient clinic  for veterans on its Worcester campus, according to the University of Massachusetts Building Authority, general contractor Suffolk Construction and UMass Chan.

The VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System and UMass Chan Medical School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday, Nov. 8, to celebrate the opening of a new 48,000-square-foot community-based outpatient clinic for veterans located on the Medical School’s campus in Worcester.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the community-based outpatient clinic will be livestreamed on UMass Chan’s Facebook and YouTube channels.

For the past 15 years, Kristin Mattocks, MD, MPH, has worked to improve quality of community care for all veterans. The new associate dean for veterans affairs at UMMS talks about the future of care in a new Voices of UMassMed podcast.

The final steel beam has been placed atop the VA clinic under construction at UMass Medical School. The building, a collaboration with the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System, is set to open in fall 2021.

On Monday, June 22, construction activity for the South Road garage expansion project will begin to reconfigure the vehicle exit lanes and gates inside the South Road garage. All traffic will continue to exit the garage via the existing South Road exit; however, as drivers approach the exit area, they will be directed around the construction activity by temporary signage and barriers.  

Beginning on Monday, May 4, travel along South Road in the vicinity of the South Road Garage at UMass Medical School will be restricted to one lane in connection with the construction of the new clinical building that will house the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System’s community-based outpatient clinic.

The former Massachusetts Department of Transportation District 3 office in Worcester has been demolished to make way for the new medical building that will house the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System’s new community-based outpatient clinic at UMass Medical School.

Changes to the South Road visitor/patient garage at the UMass Medical School/UMass Memorial Medical Center university campus will begin in March to prepare for construction of a clinical building that will house the VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System’s new community-based outpatient clinic.
