The Meyers Primary Care Institute is well positioned for success, as we prepare for future challenges in an increasingly complex and evolving research, educational, and healthcare delivery environment.

Welcome from Executive Director

Welcome to the Meyers Primary Care Institute, a joint endeavor of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Reliant Medical Group, and Fallon Community Health Plan.

Founded in 1996, the Meyers Primary Care Institute has a long history of focusing on the most important health-related issues that face our nation.  The Institute places a special emphasis on research that can lead to improvements in the health and healthcare of patients, populations, and communities.

Since our inception, we have witnessed an impressive expansion of our research agenda.  This work is spearheaded by our multidisciplinary faculty and staff, who comprise investigators and medical educators with an immense breadth and depth of experience. Unlike research conducted in highly controlled experiments, our research efforts take place in real-world healthcare settings, and the findings of our research are highly generalizable to patients who receive care in the community.

We are proud to participate in many national multi-site consortia and networks that provide us the unique opportunity to extend our research efforts even further.  These collaborations have included the HMO Research Network, the Cancer Research Network funded by the National Cancer Institute, the Cardiovascular Research Network funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, FDA’s Mini-Sentinel initiative, and the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

From an educational perspective, Meyers Primary Care Institute faculty members participate in the training of medical students, residents, graduate students, and practicing physicians.  Many of our efforts are focused on promoting primary care medicine, which is ever more crucial as national healthcare reform efforts proceed.  We are also excited about new opportunities that focus on educating healthcare professionals across different disciplines to work together to provide the best care to patients, especially those with multiple chronic conditions.

The Meyers Primary Care Institute is well positioned for ongoing success, as we prepare for future challenges in an increasingly complex, and ever-evolving research, educational, and healthcare delivery environment.

I encourage you to spend some time exploring our work, and to connect with us.

Best wishes,
