Administrative Coordinator, Office of University Events
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Carruthers is no stranger to the University of Massachusetts Medical School community. Despite her love for her hometown, she chose to pursue her higher education elsewhere. Carruthers graduated from Hofstra University (Long Island, New York) in 2015 with a bachelor of arts in Journalism and Public Relations.
Carruthers is also a member of the North American Association of Commencement Officers and a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association’s official honor society.
Carruthers joined the UMMS team in July 2015, shortly after her graduation from Hofstra University. As Administrative Coordinator to the Director of the Office of University Events, she assists with the acute planning and execution of the Chancellor’s campus events, such as Commencement, Convocation, Investiture, White Coat Ceremony, Class Oath Ceremony and the Educational Recognition Awards.
As the department has grown, its array of events has flourished. In addition to its annual events, the Office of University Events has added various smaller functions to its repertoire during the past year. Since joining UMass, Carruthers has gained great experience and continues help transform this small, two person office into a modern, efficient, and prestigious department- exemplifying the growing number of high-profile events that are planned by Tim and herself. Carruthers looks forward to taking more of a leading role in planning events in the future.
Rachel currently resides in Worcester, MA.
