Why UMASS?: I did a sub-I as a student here and was instantly impressed by how down-to-earth and hard working the residents are. Residents and faculty are genuinely happy at work and there is a great sense of pride and ownership in patient care. We see tons of very sick patients from almost every specialty. We operate a TON and there is a culture of graduated autonomy in the OR. We get exposure to different types of practice (academic, private practice, community). I honestly feel that you can become anything you want to be coming out of here. UMass is honestly the best place I could be for my training.
Favorite thing to do in Worcester: Besides eat… There are lots of great day trips, such as visiting the small towns and beaches on the North Shore, lounging on the Cape or islands, camping in Maine, enjoying Boston (without paying city rent!), visiting the many local breweries and wineries. You couldn’t be bored if you tried! I also enjoy hanging out with my husband, who is a professor at a local college, and my pet parrotlet.
Recent abstracts, posters, or publications: I presented my quality project regarding our bariatric ERAS Pathway at the ACS Quality (Virtual) Conference. I am also working on research regarding effect of the COVID pandemic on trauma activations.
