Biography

Hometown: Colchester, VT

Undergrad Institution: Smith College

Medical School: The Robert Larner, MD College of Medicine at the University of Vermont

Future plans: Academic surgery, possibly pediatric surgery. I’m still finding my way, but I want to work at a center with medical students and residents so I can pass along knowledge to the upcoming generations of surgeons.

Why UMASS?: UMASS was  very obviously special when I came for my interview. The residents were great and genuinely seemed to like each other. The attendings are extremely invested in our education and well-being. I liked the diverse patient population and knowing that we are the major trauma center in the second largest city in New England. We get a great case mix and increasing autonomy over our years. Being able to rotate at our large academic centers, a private hospital, and a community hospital give us a well-rounded look at all aspects of surgery and allow us the ability to really see how medicine is practiced in multiple environments. UMASS has become my home, and it is because of my resident and attending family that I have had such a wonderful residency experience thus far.

Favorite thing to do in Worcester: Sunday morning brunch at Birch Tree Bakery with a large black iced coffee followed by perusing the Crompton Collective. Runs around Indian Lake and runs around Lake Quinsigamond after work. Smoothies with my co-residents at Nu Kitchen.
