Date Posted: Monday, October 05, 2015

Newburg, MD
Adrienne Newburg, MD

Adrienne Newburg, MD recently joined our UMass team as an Assistant Professor with our Breast Imaging Division. Previous to securing a position at UMass Chan Center, Dr. Newburg completed her radiology residency and breast imaging fellowship at New York University Medical Center in New York, NY. Her graduate education allowed her to work at many institutions within the medical center including Bellevue Hospital, Tisch Hospital, NYU Clinical Cancer Center and Center for Women's Imaging, as well as the Manhattan VA. This vast about of institutions gave her diverse patient and clinical experiences.

As a UMass Chan Medical School graduate, Dr. Newburg was “thrilled and honored to have had the opportunity to return and join the UMass Radiology Department.” She is quite excited to be part of a “collegial, dedicated, and passionate” team of physicians.

In her personal time, Dr. Newburg enjoys outdoor activities like running and skiing.

Please welcome Dr. Adrienne Newburg to our Radiology Department!

SenapatiGunjan Senapati, MD

Gunjan Senapati, MD also an Assistant Professor with Breast Imaging, began with the Department at the end of August. Dr. Senapati was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Boston to complete almost all of her medical training. She completed medical school at Tufts University, residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and her breast imaging fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute. While at BIDMC, Dr. Senapati trained under Dr. Max Rosen and was also Chief Resident in her fourth year.

Dr. Senapati was attracted to the UMass Radiology program because of the “great support given to junior faculty and the wonderful patient population in Central, MA”.

In her spare time, Dr. Senapati enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants and spending time with family and friends.

rex, MD

David Rex, MD, PhD

David Rex, MD, PhD joined our Neurointerventional Radiology Division this past month as an Assistant Professor of Radiology. Just previous to this new position at UMass, Dr. Rex was at UCLA finishing a 2 year Neurointerventional Radiology fellowship. He made the decision to move across country first and foremost because of our talented Neurointerventional team. “Drs. Wakhloo, Puri and Gounis--the abilities of the section, their knowledge and technical expertise, attention to their patient's best interest and in no small part their desire to improve the field and develop new and improved strategies for the treatment of complex neurovascular pathology is exactly what I was looking for in my new section.”

Dr. Rex is thoroughly interested in neurovascular disease, specifically aneurysm and stroke diagnosis, staging and treatment. He believes that although we have come extremely far since the first brain scans and initial endovascular treatment efforts of these diseases, there is more to be done with approaches that may be less invasive and/or safer.

On a personal note, Dr. Rex enjoys spending time with his son Oliver and his wife Anita. Whether it is near or far, they like traveling and eating the many different cuisines that the world has to offer. Being new to the area, Dr. Rex is taking suggestions for the best local restaurants. Some friendly competition will be warranted as the Rex family will continue to root for their Los Angeles based sports teams from their New England residence.
