Outreach Program for High School Students

Summer High School Outreach Students
Dr. Christopher Cerniglia discusses equipment on a tour of the Radiology Department with summer outreach students Emmanuel Appiah Kubi and Aaron Balboa.

Two Students in the High School Health Careers Program will be interning and shadowing with Dr. Christopher Cerniglia this summer. The students interning in Radiology are Emmanuel Appiah Kubi - Senior at North High and Aaron Balboa - Junior at Burncoat High.

Robert Layne, Assistant Dean of Outreach Programs, is hosting twenty high school students participating in the 2017 summer High School Health Careers Program, as UMASS has done for the past 30 years. These high achieving students have a desire to learn more about healthcare careers. The four-week program began on Sunday, July 2, 2017 and runs through Friday, July 28, 2017.  Students participate in academic enrichment courses during the morning hours; and have the opportunity to job-shadow/observe in clinical and research departments thirteen afternoons during the program. The students are processed and cleared by Employee Health Services to observe in clinical departments through the UMMMC Policy 1413 “Observer of Patient Care Activities.”
