Thank you for your interest in the University of Massachusetts physiatry interventional spine fellowship program. We offer a non-accreditated, university graduate medical education approved one year program with two fellows per year.
The goal for the physiatry interventional spine fellowship is to provide a comprehensive learning experience ultimately developing a solid foundation for independent functioning as an interventional spine physiatrist. We believe this experience is accomplished by three broad areas of study throughout the fellowship program. Research opportunities will include outcome studies, clinical trials, and basic science research. The clinics are busy, varied, and include outpatient assessments of the patients, pre and post injections as well as electrodiagnostic workups and ultrasound evaluations, as appropriate.
The fellowship will provide an environment and experience, which will enhance the fellow’s skills to become technically proficient in interventional spine procedures. During the fellowship, the fellow is taught all the necessary skills to perform these procedures as well as skills needed to handle any emergencies related to doing these procedures. The fellowship focuses on routine lumbar and joint interventional procedures, and advances to cervical ones once the fellow is more proficient. The goal is to allow the fellow to do more complex procedures with the attending’s support. The fellow will be proficient in all basic spinal interventional procedures, and many of the more complicated ones by the end of the Fellowship.
