Residents Attend New England Ophthalmological Society (NEOS) Conference

Date Posted: Wednesday, October 06, 2021

The 785th New England Ophthalmic Society meeting (NEOS) presented an exciting opportunity for UMASS residents to learn more about our field of medicine and network with leaders of our profession. The meeting was held in the beautiful, state-of-the-art Hotel Commonwealth convention room, and attended by academic faculty, private practice physicians, fellow residents and approximately 40 exhibitors.

The morning sessions began with several short and intriguing cases of glaucoma management in different scenarios. The session was capped off by Guest of Honor Dr. Kuldev Singh’s informative and entertaining talk regarding positive and negative differences of “Millennial” and “Old School” thought and management of glaucoma, with an emphasis on the use of MIGS and trabeculectomies.

A hearty New England lunch was provided and UMASS residents had the opportunity to meet leaders in both academia (we finally met Dr. Hunter in person!) and private practice. We also ran into several familiar faces including our own faculty (Dr. Branchini and Dr. Jastrzembski) and collaborative teachers (Dr. Chang).

The afternoon short sessions were highlighted by pediatric ophthalmologist leaders including an exciting update on tele-ophthalmology trends during the COVID-19 era (presented by Dr. Jastrzembski). The conference ended on high note with Guest of Honor Dr. Michael Chiang giving an informative talk on the growing role of information technology in ophthalmology. Afterwards, we had an opportunity to enjoy a social hour on the Hotel Commonwealth Terrace before heading home.
