Message from the Chair

JohnsonJuliaDear Applicant,

I am extremely excited about the opportunity to give you information about our program. We believe that we have a superb educational program with a faculty that continuously strives to improve both the formal and "informal" curricula. We make every effort to achieve the appropriate balance between the service aspects of residency and the educational ones.

The mission of our residency is to train outstanding clinicians and impart the skills for lifelong learning. We do this through evidence-based and technologically focused curricula; including an anatomic cadaver dissection program, a fully developed literature interpretation curriculum, and a large volume of clinical cases in general obstetrics and gynecology, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, urogynecology, and gynecologic oncology.

We recognize that physicians are teachers; we educate our patients, our staff, and each other throughout our careers. The entire department is dedicated to teaching. Thus, there are ongoing programs throughout the year focusing on training not only our residents, but also our faculty, in effective teaching methods and successful mentoring.

Our department is commited to advancing knowledge in our specialty. Our Research Division Director and her team work with residents to develop and execute their chosen research projects. All residents have completed their projects successfully; many have presented their research at national meetings. It is the purpose of the resident research program to educate you on the role of clinical research in OB/GYN. For some residents this progresses to doing a fellowship and/or an academic career.

We want to ensure that you are fully prepared to succeed in your career, so we have special programs in leadership development, consultation, teams and team building, communication skill building, organizational management, professionalism, ethics, and career planning to assit in those areas. It is important to us that at the end of your residency training you can achieve lifelong career satisfaction.

The faculty and I are very proud of our educational program. We welcome inquiries and would be happy to discuss our program and its continuing evolution as we grow and develop new ways to care for, educate, and communicate with each other in order to most effectively care for our patients.
