Burnt Stories by Brett Poza, MFA, is the next installment of the Lamar Soutter Library’s Artist in Residence Series. Poza is a visiting lecturer and graduate mentor for the Massachusetts College of Art and Design as well as a registered art therapist. She has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, an MA from Lesley University and an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Her husband, Richard Poza, is an instructor in the Graduate School of Nursing.

Poza explains how she creates her work: “I employ a combination of traditional pyrographic techniques using professional grade equipment that burns at between 700–1500 degrees F, small butane torches and chemicals that create burns with the use of a heat gun. Color is added with water-based inks, natural inks I make myself, watercolor pencils or stains. I work on maple or birch plywood, or wood that has heavyweight watercolor paper adhered to the surface.”

The exhibit runs through Tuesday, Dec. 31.
