Day of Service, Night of Fun brings UMMS students together with local community

Students, faculty can volunteer for May 11 service projects and join celebration after

The one-day service event Day of Service, Night of Fun, designed to connect UMass Medical School students with the Greater Worcester community and with each other, will be held on Saturday, May 11. Student and faculty volunteers can choose to participate in a variety of community service projects taking place at numerous sites, including schools in the Worcester Public Schools North Quadrant, AIDS Project Worcester, Community Harvest and Be Like Brit. A catered dinner for students to celebrate the day will follow in the Albert Sherman Center.

Last May’s inaugural event brought together more than 80 UMMS participants. A follow-up orientation event for incoming students in August attracted 88 participants at seven sites.

Created in 2018 with funding from a Martin Luther King Semester of Service Award, the initiative is now continuing and expanding its reach in the Worcester community with support from the Office of Government and Community Relations. Students, faculty and staff can sign up online for a volunteer slot.
