Riley named associate vice chancellor for innovation and business development

Timothy A. Riley, PhD, has joined the Office of Innovation and Business Development at UMass Medical School as associate vice chancellor, announced Brendan O’Leary, PhD, executive vice chancellor for innovation and business development.

Most recently, Dr. Riley spent 10 years at Nektar Therapeutics, a leading biotech company in California, where he held several positions, including senior vice president of global research and senior vice president for technology assessment and quality. Prior to Nektar, Riley spent two decades in senior research and management roles at various companies, including Chimerix, Oasis Biosciences, Genta, JBL Scientific and ICN Pharmaceuticals.

“Tim is an entrepreneurial technical leader who has built and led successful teams in pharmaceutical R&D, contributing to the development of eight clinical-stage drugs along the way,” said Dr. O’Leary. “Here, he will be the chief deputy of the innovation and business development office and play key leadership roles across all of our activities.”

Riley has a PhD in organic chemistry from Brigham Young University. He shares more than 20 patents.
