Mark Price honored for bravery in U.S. Navy Reserve

Assistant professor featured in Telegram for medical service in Afghanistan

Mark D. Price, MD, PhD, assistant professor of orthopedics & physical rehabilitation and member of the U.S. Navy Reserve who recently returned from a nine-month tour in Afghanistan, will soon be awarded the Bronze Star for his meritorious service in combat situations and for his innovation in outfitting the mobile hospital unit, according to a story in the July 3 Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

While in Afghanistan, Dr. Price treated injured coalition soldiers, performed surgeries on the injured, provided humanitarian surgeries for Afghans and worked on the mobile surgical unit. He told the Telegram his military convoy was attacked in December, and as he was running out to get supplies to treat one of the injured, he was fired upon.
