Welcome from Executive Director

Meyers Health Care Institute -  A new name and an expanded mission

Welcome to the Meyers Health Care Institute, a unique joint endeavor of a medical school, a multispecialty medical group, and a health plan.

Established in 1996 by UMass Chan Medical School, Reliant Medical Group, and Fallon Health, Meyers Health Care Institute has a long history of focusing on the most important health-related issues that face our community, our region, and our nation.

In 2021, we changed our name from Meyers Primary Care Institute to Meyers Health Care Institute, to reflect how our work and mission have evolved to keep pace with the changing health care environment.  Health care delivery exists in a continuum, encompassing the community and a full range of clinical settings, extending well beyond what existed a quarter of a century ago when the Institute was founded.  The investigators and staff at the Meyers Health Care Institute focus on new ways to improve the health and health care provided to individuals and populations, in diverse settings and contexts, including but not limited to primary care.  Our new name reflects this expanded contemporary focus.

However, while the Institute’s scope has expanded, its foundation remains firm. The same principles hold today that the health of the community is improved when people have access to high quality primary care, an enduring philosophy that stimulated the creation of the Institute in 1996.

At Meyers Health Care Institute, we are proud to participate in many national multi-site consortia and networks that provide us wonderful opportunities to extend the reach of our research efforts even further.  These collaborations have involved the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN), the NIH All of Us Research Program, the NIH Collaboratory Distributed Research Network, and the HCSRN-Older Americans Independence Centers AGING Initiative.

From an educational perspective, Meyers Health Care Institute faculty members participate in the training of medical students, residents, graduate students, and practicing physicians.  We are especially proud of our efforts that focus on educating healthcare professionals across different disciplines to work together to provide the best possible care to patients, especially those with multiple chronic conditions.

Meyers Health Care Institute is well positioned for ongoing success, as we prepare for future challenges in an increasingly complex, and ever-changing research, educational, and healthcare delivery environment.

I encourage you to spend some time exploring our work, and to connect with us.

Thank you for your interest in Meyers Health Care Institute.
