The McCormick Lab has historically studied epithelial barrier function in the intestine and mucosal inflammation during enteric bacterial pathogen infection and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Our current research focuses on three main areas:

  • Host-pathogen interactions in Salmonella typhimurium and Shigella flexneri infection
  • Cancer therapy development utilizing a Salmonella typhimurium effector protein to specifically down-regulate multi-drug resistance transporter P-glycoprotein
  • Understanding the mechanism of beneficial microbe-driven intestinal homeostasis and prevention of mucosal inflammation via regulation of a balanced P-glycoprotein/MRP2 transporter system
