Hemant Khanna awarded NIH-RO1 grant renewal

Date Posted: Friday, September 01, 2017

Hemant Khanna, PhD has been awarded the renewal of his NIH-RO1 grant entitled “Function of ciliary disease protein retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator (RPGR)”.

This grant will help continue his research www.umassmed.edu/khannalab on understanding how RPGR, a gene that causes a common form of X-linked retinitis pigmentosa (XLRP), regulates the function of photoreceptors.

Specifically, Dr. Khanna will study the effect of disease-causing mutations in RPGR on its function and on the survival of photoreceptors. Such knowledge will provide critical insights when designing therapeutic strategies for this devastating disease.
