High Risk Travel

Travel to High Risk Countries requires special consideration and preparation. lectronic devices and the information on these devices may be at risk of both physical tampering and cyber-attacks.  In rare circumstances, personal devices and luggage may be subject to involuntary official government review (such as Customs officers temporarily seizing devices).  In other countries, you may need to prepare for limited access to specific websites or applications (apps) such as YouTube, Google, Facebook or Twitter due to international sanctions or unreliable connectivity.

Current List of High Risk Countries

International Support Services maintains a list of high risk countries, reviewing and issuing a composite assessment based on information from a number of sources.  By default the list includes countries that have Level 3 and Level 4 Travel Advisories from the U.S. Department of State or a Level 3 Health Notice from the CDC, as well as those that are identified as high risk by other U.S. Government sources such as the Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). The High Risk Country List also incorporates information from our academic intelligence provider (World Aware) and insurance brokers. The list is updated regularly, typically on a quarterly basis.
