Transfer to/from another UMass Campus, State or Municipal Agency

Certain benefits and services can be transferred from other UMass Campuses, State Agencies, and Public (C.32) Agencies. These benefits depend on the institution/agency, and whether an individual is directly transferring to UMass Chan Medical School, or transferring with a break of service. For more information, please refer to the Transfer of Service To/From UMass policy and matrix located on the Policies page, Volume VI: Human Resources.

Transfer from another UMass Campus or State Agency

If you transfer from another UMass Campus or State Agency to UMass Chan with no break in service, there is no interruption in the GIC health insurance, GIC life insurance and GIC long term disability. UMass Chan dental insurance will start the first of the month after transfer date. The contribution to the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS) will continue without interruption. If previously in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) and transferring to an ORP-eligible position, you will be able to continue in the ORP or enroll in MSERS. Vacation, sick and personal hours can be transferred from another UMass Campus. Prior service credit for vacation accruals will be honored for those employees directly transferring from another state agency.

If you transfer from another UMass Campus or State Agency to UMass Chan with a break in service, GIC health insurance, GIC life insurance and GIC long term disability and UMass Chan dental insurance will start the first of the month after 60 days of employment. If contributions to the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS) have not been withdrawn, you will continue contributing at the same percentage previously paid. If contributions have been withdrawn you will contribute at the current rate (9%). Sick hours cannot be transferred from another UMass Campus if you have a break in service.
