  • CME/CE – Talking with Patients in the context of the opioid crisis and the decriminalization of Marijuana

    Start : 5/3/2019 1:00PM

    End : 5/3/2019 3:00PM

Location : Albert Sherman Center, 5th Floor, AS5.2072

Description : Two apparently opposing forces confront us and our patients. One is legislation restricting the use of opioids for the management of pain. The other is legislation legalizing access to marijuana. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts became the seventh state to legalize recreational marijuana and the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) has issued 20 provisional licenses for retail sale. The first shops have opened but it remains to be seen what the consequences of legalized recreational cannabis will be. How can we best help our patients in the midst of rapid change and the ongoing opioid crisis? What is the best approach to pain, and mothers and infants affected by substance use disorder? Join Pain Specialist Michael Connelly, MD’86 and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome specialist and Pediatric Hospitalist Jennifer Murzycki, MD/PhD’08 for a presentation and discussion. What you learn can help when talking with patients and families about pain, the use of opioids, the use of marijuana, and what we may expect to unfold in the coming years. CME Credits Available.
