A Letter From Our Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the University of Massachusetts Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship Program! Here and elsewhere on this site, we hope to give you a glimpse of what it’s like to be a member of the UMass GI training program. Enjoy!

Fellows will have the opportunity to work with a multicultural, multiethnic patient population across 3 campuses, ranging from a non-profit, tertiary care, major academic medical center to a smaller community-based hospital.  UMass’ central location and its collection of clinical services ensures a catchment area that includes all 6 New England states and over 1 million people; and fellows benefit from this pathophysiologic, socioeconomic and cultural diversity.  The presence of and partnership with various disciplines – such as Pathology, IR and Surgical Services – allows for a multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic approach to both routine and complex pathologies.

Our fellows leave after 3 years of rigorous yet rewarding training to join academic institutions and hospital based private practices.  No matter where they end up, our goal is to train sound clinicians, respectful consultants and reliable colleagues who will share their knowledge with future trainees and deliver exceptional care to their patients.

We are looking for motivated and curious learners, eager and professional teachers, confident and reliable team players and resourceful clinicians.  The immediate future of GI-based care is marked by change and innovation. The UMass GI Fellowship Program strives to provide its fellows with a strong foundation in GI training as well as the opportunities and skills needed to adapt for the evolving landscape.

Please take a look around the website to learn more and we hope to see you on your interview trail!
