Dr. Forkey Presented at a Forum on the Education of Children in Foster Care

Dr. Forkey presented at a forum on the education of children in foster care, which was hosted by Representative David LeBoeuf and the Worcester Education Collaborative in Worcester. The audience included teachers, CASA volunteers, foster parents and other members of the community. Dr. Forkey shared what the FaCES Clinic has learned about the educational needs of foster kids, as well as the progress and roadblocks the Clinic faced in trying to help kids and their foster parents navigate the system. She also cited KISR!, a program in Cincinnati, which has done amazing work in helping foster kids achieve their educational goals. Other presenters at the forum included Kate Lowenstein with Citizens for Juvenile Justice, Patty Padilla, the principal of Woodland Elementary School, Maura Mahoney, manager of Social Emotional Learning in Worcester Public Schools, and Kelly Prendergast, Area Director for Worcester East office of the Department of Children and Families.
