DIO in collaboration with the Office of Student Life also sponsors two Networking Socials during the academic year.  These gatherings allow for social exchange and networking among faculty, staff, students and residents, particularly those from underrepresented groups.

Mentoring – developing insight to turn hindsight into foresight

About Mentoring Circles

As a part of our plan to develop talent, DIO sponsors a series of Mentoring Circles in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs.  The objective of Mentoring Circles is to provide a diverse group of medical students and residents exposure to faculty in a team-based setting that allows for informal dialog, mentoring, and learning across the circle. The program provides participants with enhanced professional growth, varied perspectives through peer and faculty mentoring, and an expanded network of colleagues.

SGA Diversity Pillars

Student Diversity Pillar Leadership Group

As a part of our plan to develop talent across all three schools and Graduate Medical Education (GME), Diversity and Inclusion Office (DIO) sponsors a periodic meeting, at least once per semester. The objective of Student Diversity Leaders is to provide a diverse group of learners exposure to the Diversity & Inclusion Office and our efforts and programs to make UMass the best place to get an education. The group provides participants with enhanced professional growth, varied perspectives through diversity mentoring, and an expanded network of colleagues across the three schools and GME. The Student Diversity Pillars Leadership Group is open to the elected Student Government Association Diversity Pillars leaders plus leadership from groups whose identity or events hosted relate to any aspect of diversity. The goal of this group is to both assist the leaders with the knowledge and procedural process that will allow them to be successful. In addition, the Diversity Leaders will be able to assist the Diversity and Inclusion Office, their program as well as other student groups with their efforts to move the needle on diversity.

Student Diversity Pillar Dialog

As a part of our plan to develop talent across all three schools and Graduate Medical Education, DIO sponsors a periodic meeting, at least once per semester. The objective of Student Diversity Pillar Dialog is to provide a diverse group of learners exposure to their peers who are interested in Diversity, any programming planned by Diversity Pillar groups and the Diversity & Inclusion Office. The Diversity Pillar Dialog provides learners with enhanced professional growth, varied perspectives through diversity mentoring, and an expanded network of colleagues interested in diversity outside of their own school. The Student Diversity Pillar Dialog Group is open to any who is interested in diversity on the UMass campuses - we encourage unaffiliated student to come and be social and stick around to hear what the student groups are doing with the Diversity and Inclusion Office. The goal of this group is to both social time for students who are all interested in diversity in some way and programmatic time to assist the leaders with promoting what their groups are doing, to gain insight from students not in their group and to build synergy amongst the student groups to unify our diversity efforts.
