Diabetes Emergency Preparedness Plan

Date Posted: 2/15/2019 12:00:00 AM

It's important for people living with diabetes, particularly those who depend on insulin, to be adequately prepared in the event of the unthinkable.  The unpredictability of the weather alone has produced intense, damaging storms and sub-freezing temperatures, resulting in loss of electricity and evacuation.

Diabetes Kit

Putting together a diabetes kit and creating a plan, will ensure that people with diabetes can effectively manage their blood sugar during a natural disaster or emergency.

Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition

The Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition (DDRC) was founded as a result of the combined efforts of the nation's leading diabetes organizations: JDRF, the American Diabetes Association, Insulin for Life USA, the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Research!America and T1D Exchange.

Emergency Preparedness Plan

The DDRC has put together a patient preparedness plan that includes a checklist of supplies, information, and guidelines to best prepare people living with diabetes.
