Daniel Mullin, PsyD, MPH, Course Director

Dan is the Director of the Center for Integrated Primary Care and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the UMass Chan Medical School. He is a clinician, educator, researcher, and consultant specializing in the integration of behavioral health and primary care services. He maintains a clinical practice embedded in the Barre Family Health Center, a rural residency practice with Level 3 NCQA PCMH recognition. He is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and conducts research, teaches, and provides consultation related to Motivational Interviewing in healthcare settings.

Ethan Eisdorfer, PsyD, Course Presenter 

Ethan is a clinical psychologist and medical educator. He serves as the Director of Behavioral Science for the Greenfield Family Medicine Residency Program and as an Integrated Behavioral Health clinician in primary care. He is passionate about patient-centered communication, Motivational Interviewing, and evidence-based behavioral health care. Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)

Stephen R. Andrew LCSW, LADC, CCS, CGP

Stephen is a storyteller, trainer and the Chief Energizing Officer of Health Education Training Institute.  He maintains a compassion-focused private practice in Portland, Maine where he also facilitates a variety of young person, men's, co-ed, couples and caregiver groups. A member of the International Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) since 2003, he is a MIA-STEP trainer (Motivational Interviewing Assessment; Supervisor Training Program) for the New England ATTC. Stephen provides coaching and training domestically and internationally for social service agencies, health-care providers, substance abuse counselors, criminal justice and other groups.

 Kathryn Brogan

Kathryn Brogan Hartleb

Katie is an Assistant Professor of Dietetics and Nutrition in the Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work at Florida International University and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.  She conducts federally funded interdisciplinary health behavior research in minority youth and families with a focus on obesity.  She is also funded to study patient-provider health behavior change communication in adolescents and adults in the areas of weight management, HIV, medical education, and other chronic diseases. Katie received her PhD in Nutrition and Food Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and completed a Pediatric Nutrition Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

 

Denise Ernst, PhD

Dr. Ernst is a co-developer of the MITI and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.  Trained as a Motivational Interviewing trainer in 1993, she has conducted training internationally in MI to a wide variety of professionals working in substance abuse, criminal justice, medical care and public health.

 

Peter Fifield, MS, LCMHC

Peter is the manager of behavioral health services at Families First Health and Support Center in Portsmouth, NH. He holds clinical licenses in mental health and alcohol and drug counseling. Peter has been working in the field as an integrated behavioral health consultant for six years and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He has had extensive training in Motivational Interviewing and holds a master’s degree from the University of West Alabama in Counseling Psychology. Currently, Peter is working on his doctoral degree from the University of New England focusing on physician leadership in the primary care setting.

 

Ali Hall, JD

As an independent trainer and consultant in Motivational Interviewing and member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), Ali advises and trains agencies in Motivational Interviewing implementation. She provides training and consultation in the application of Motivational Interviewing to workplace and clinical settings and also specializes in Motivational Interviewing applications to health, wellness, and other behavioral change. She is also a reviewer and trainer for the National Registry of Evidence-Based Practices.

 Denise Jolicoeur

Denise Jolicoeur, MPH, CHES

Denise is a program director in Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School where she teaches and manages the internationally recognized UMass Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training program. She joined the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers in 2008 and is trained in the use of the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) Coding System. Denise conducts training in motivational interviewing with a variety of participants including tobacco treatment specialists and Head Start staff. She holds a BA in Social and Rehabilitation Services, a Master of Public Health degree and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.

 Dr. Kaplan

Sebastian Kaplan, PhD

Sebastian is a clinical psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section. Dr. Kaplan is a former special education teacher, who currently provides individual and family psychotherapy, primarily with adolescents and young adults, struggling with a variety of life challenges. Dr. Kaplan has provided training in MI for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s undergraduate medical school, physician assistant program, and department of psychiatry’s residency program. Dr. Kaplan has also provided MI training for several community mental health agencies, a pediatric obesity treatment program, and a high school counseling department. 

 Ariel SInger

Ariel Singer, MPH

Ariel is the Program and Training Director for the Northwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NWATTC), the Pacific Northwest node of a national network funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to promote evidence-based practice in substance use disorder treatment. Ariel contributes expertise in the areas of health system integration and transformation, motivational interviewing and implementation of evidence-based clinical practices. Prior to joining the NWATTC, Ariel provided technical assistance and training on medical home implementation, patient-centered communication, and behavioral health integration to Oregon’s Federally Qualified Health Centers as the Curriculum Manager at the Oregon Primary Care Association.

 Dr. Suzuki

Joji Suzuki, MD

Joji is currently the Medical Director of Addictions and Director of Addictions Education in the Department of Psychiatry, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His areas of clinical and research focus are the assessment and management of substance use disorders in medical settings, Motivational Interviewing, office-based opioid treatment, implementation of collaborative models of care, and medical education.

 

 Kathleen Watson

Kathleen Watson, MA, EdM

Kate earned her graduate degrees in Psychological Counseling at Columbia University.  Today, Kate works at Peirce College, where she holds a dual position as both Assistant Professor of Healthcare Administration, as well as Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice Studies.  There, Kate focuses her work on public health policy responses to gender-based violence and trauma-informed care.  She is a consultant with the United States National Guard’s Sexual Assault Response Program and is currently a doctoral student at Drexel University’s School of Public Health, earning her degree in Health Policy and Social Justice.  Since 2010, Kate has been researching MI interventions for women involved in Intimate Partner Violence at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine.
