Love: Learning to Inhabit the Heart

Each time you give up your heart to love is a moment of true joy…   -Hafiz

To be of any real use meditation and mindfulness need to offer us an effective means of meeting the stresses and strains, demands and challenges of everyday life.   In my own life, and in the lives of tens of thousands of people around the world who have participated in mindfulness and MBSR programs, the discovery of stability and resiliency in the midst of everyday life appears to be consistently affirmed. As these capacities unfold, people often ask me questions like, “What’s next?”  “Now that I’ve learned to survive and sometimes thrive, is there something more to me and to this life?”  “What has mindfulness practice got to do with my heart, my soul, my deeper sense of wellbeing?” In your own way, you too may have wondered about these and other questions. The questions themselves are pointing to something within us - like fragrances to be inhaled, signs to be followed, hidden treasures in your chest calling to you. Every one of us, despite what we say or think, is drawn by love, called forth by the force of love. And when we get comfortable with this “call," we can actually learn how to lean into the feeling of love, how to linger in love, how to fall open into what we actually are—and know it beyond knowing itself - even for the briefest of moments.  This is the treasure we’ll explore in this half-day retreat.

Mindful Eating:  Making Food Fun Again

Is your relationship with food satisfying and enjoyable, or a source of concern and stress?
Come learn how mindfulness can help us to cultivate a healthier relationship with food    and eating – one bite at a time.  In this workshop we will:

  • Engage in mindfulness practices that can support us to make wise – and satisfying – food choices
  • Sample foods as a way to experientially understand what’s behind a nutritional label
  • Learn how our brain influences our food choices and eating habits
  • Practice mindful eating by sharing lunch together (please bring a brown bag lunch)
