Michele P. Pugnaire, MD

Pugnaire2010Michele P. Pugnaire, MD, Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health and Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the education mission of UMMS across Undergraduate Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education. During the past 20 years, she has held a variety of school-wide educational leadership positions, including Associate Dean for Admissions, Assistant Dean for Student Advising, and Director of the Family Medicine Clerkship. She currently serves as Interim Director of UMMS Simulation Center. She has lead a number of grant funded initiatives to advance educational programs and curricular innovation in diverse areas including communication skills, sexual health, geriatrics, technology in teaching and professionalism assessment. As Co-Principal Investigator for the DW Reynolds Foundation's Comprehensive Program to Strengthen Physicians' Training in Geriatrics, she brings her institutional leadership and educational experience towards advancing geriatrics teaching at UMass across the continuum of medical education including medical student teaching, resident training and faculty development. Dr. Pugnaire has maintained an active family medicine practice in North Worcester County for over 25 years, serving vulnerable populations in rural & urban communities
