Transfer Between Tracks
Individuals may transfer between tracks according to the conditions described below.
Transfer Into the Tenure Track
An individual may transfer from the non-tenure track into the tenure track on recommendation of the chair, following review by the Department Tenure Committee (or equivalent), and approval by the Provost (APP, Section 4.5.a). Individuals appointed in the tenure track must have an academic record that indicates a high likelihood that they will meet the criteria for tenure by the end of their probationary period.
Transfer Into the Non-Tenure Track
A faculty member may submit a written request to their chair to transfer from the tenure track into the non-tenure track (APP, Section 4.5.f). The chair reviews the request and, if approved, makes a recommendation to the Provost. If the Provost approves the request, the transfer is made by written agreement between the faculty member, chair and Provost.
A faculty member who has transferred out of the tenure track may submit a written request to their chair to transfer back into the tenure track. The chair reviews the request and, if approved, makes a recommendation to the Provost. If the Provost approves the request, the transfer and designation of the Tenure Decision Year is confirmed by written agreement between the Faculty Member, chair and Provost.
