  • Educational Activities

Director of Microsurgery, UMass Plastic Surgery Program, 2005-Present.
Microsurgery Training Courses organized and directed:

  • August 2005; Surgical Skills Lab, Umass Medical Center, Worcester, Mass.
  • August 2006; Surgical Skills Lab, Umass Medical Center, Worcester, Mass.
  • August 2007; Surgical Skills Lab, Umass Medical Center, Worcester, Mass.
  • August 2008; Surgical Skills Lab, Umass Medical Center, Worcester, Mass.

This course is intended mainly for Plastic Surgery residents and involves one week of didactic and practical training of microsurgical techniques in the rat, including femoral artery anastomosis, femoral vein anastomosis, dorsal penile vein anastomosis, anastomosis using vein grafts, end-to-side anastomosis, and free groin flap auto-transfer.

Participating faculty member, Anatomy and Flap Dissection Course, UMass Plastic Surgery Program, 2005-Present

This course takes place at Umass Anatomy Lab, for one week every January. My contribution to this course has been theoretical and practical education of various flap dissections, both traditional and sophisticated, especially flaps in the trunk region and perforator-based flaps such as DIEP flaps, groin flap, DCIA perforator flap, Lumbar artery perforator flap, adductor magnus perforator flap, TFL flap, scapular flaps. In addition to flap harvesting techniques, I emphasized breast reduction and mastopexy techniques as well, such as medial/superior pedicle short-scar mammaplasty, and intercostal artery flaps for auto-augmentation.

3. Research Interests
Anatomic studies in perforator flaps, development of new flap designs, especially for breast reconstruction and autologous tissue breast augmentation.
