ELECTRONIC RESIDENCY APPLICATION SERVICE (ERAS)

ERAS is the electronic residency application service from the Association of American Medical Colleges.   ERAS was introduced in 1995 in a pilot program for students applying to OB/GYN residency programs and has subsequently been expanded to other fields.

ERAS is made up of four components: the Web-based Applicant Web site (called MyERAS), the Dean’s Workstation (DWS), the Program Director’s Workstation (PDWS) and the ERAS Post Office (ERASPO).   You can access ERAS and the Student Workstation through the AAMC Web site at www.aamc.org.  MyERAS will be available in mid July.  Before accessing MyERAS for the first time, you must obtain your assigned “token number” from Judy Holewa in the Office of Student Affairs.  After you obtain this number, you will be able to register and log onto MyERAS using any Web browser [Netscape, Internet Explorer version 4.0 or higher].  You will be able to work on your Common Application Form (CAF), save and complete your application on line; you will select residency programs you want to apply to as well as assign supporting documents (letters of recommendation, USMLE scores, etc.) to your application using the secure MyERAS Web site.  When your CAF is complete, you will submit it (electronically) to ERAS for processing.  Your MSPE/Dean’s Letter, letters of recommendation, photo, transcript, etc. will be attached to your application from the Dean’s Office Workstation (Judy Holewa).   Letters of Recommendation (LOR’s) are sent directly to Judy Holewa in the Office of Student Affairs.  Once received, your supporting documentation will be scanned into your application and transmitted to the ERAS Post Office.  Residency programs will download this information by connecting to the ERAS Post Office using their Program Directors Workstation.  Program Directors can review, sort and print applications using criteria established by the program.
