Thank you for your interest in the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s (UMMS) Resident Recruitment Program (RRP). Diversity and Inclusion Office works in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and the Graduate Medical Education Office in recruitment and execution of the URM Residency Recruitment Program. This four-week subsidized elective for fourth year medical students from underrepresented backgrounds serves to enhance the diversity of our residency programs and provides an opportunity for students to consider UMass Memorial Health Care in order to better serve Worcester County’s growing multicultural population.
The UMMS’s Resident Recruitment Program is pleased to offer 4Th year underrepresented medical students from Allopathic/LCME accredited schools the opportunity to participate in a four- week subsidized elective with UMass Memorial Health Care and its’ affiliated hospitals. This is a great opportunity for 4th year medical students to view our residency programs first hand. We generally take about three students per year. We do require that your elective is in the specialty you are applying to for Residency. A list of our Residency Programs can be found at http://www.umassmed.edu/gme/program-listings/residency-programs/.
Dr. Maria Garcia, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Diversity, will provide mentoring and career advising to students accepted into the Resident Recruitment Program. There is also a modest stipend to help pay your approved elective’s transportation expenses, food and housing along with reimbursing your $65 visiting student administrative fee.
A list of UMass electives can be found on our website at www.umassmed.edu/studentaffairs/electives/list.aspx
Please review our visiting student guidelines and file an application with the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) https://services.aamc.org/20/vsas/ .
UMass will begin accepting Visiting Student Applications on March 1st. However, applications will not be processed until April 1st.
