Advanced MR Imaging Core (AMRIC):

The Advanced MRI Center, in the Center for Innovative Imaging and Intervention (CI3), is a research core facility providing the latest magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy capabilities to scientists, clinicians, government and industry. Technical and clinical expertise for collaborative research is also provided.
The Center’s specialized techniques are able to elucidate functional, physiological and biochemical information from all organs of the body. This enables physicians to make better decisions regarding patient care.
Additionally, researchers are better able to understand the mechanisms of diseases such as lung and heart disease, cancer, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, back pain and injuries, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar disease and depression. This facilitates the development of new therapies that can be safely and continuously evaluated throughout patient treatment.
New England Center for Stroke Research (NECStR)
Directed by Drs. Matthew Gounis and Ajay Wakhloo
NECSTR is a neuroradiology facility that offers the latest technology in image guided intervention to support University investigators in developing minimally invasive treatments.
NECStR has been fully operational since May 3 2007 with a special focus is on image guided interventions for minimally invasive treatment of vascular disease. The center’s expertise and resources enable animal modeling of vascular pathologies, 3D x-ray imaging, post acquisition image processing, rapid prototyping from medical imaging and image guided minimally invasive surgery. Although the center’s focus lies in cardiovascular imaging and intervention, previous work has included selective vascular drug delivery for cancer treatment and orthopedic device implantation.
Small Animal Imaging Core
Directed by Drs. Mary Rusckowski and Don Hnatowich
The UMMS Small Animal Imaging Core was established in early 2008 to serve the UMMS and extramural research community by providing state-of-the-art single photon computerized tomography (SPECT), positron emission computerized tomography (PET) and X-Ray computerized tomography (CT) cameras for imaging small animals.
