Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine

Research

Research is an important emphasis of the Division.  NIH funded basic research laboratories study signal transduction in airway smooth muscle (PI: Madison), host defense against tuberculosis (PI: Kornfeld), and the genetics underlying airway inflammation in asthma (PI: Lilly).  Of particular note is that one member of our division, Dr. Richard Irwin, is currently Editor-in-Chief of a major pulmonology journal, Chest.  The Division's basic research laboratories and numerous clinical studies have all been productive and continue to provide important learning opportunities for pulmonary and critical care fellows in the Division.
