Tobacco Consultation Service in Worcester, Massachusetts
The UMass Tobacco Consultation Service (TCS) provides the latest, evidence-based treatment approaches to:
- Aid patients with nicotine withdrawal management while in a clinical setting
- Provide supportive behavior treatment to promote tobacco cessation
Treatment is individualized, and motivation-based, matched to the individuals “readiness” to address their tobacco use. It is provided by certified master's-level tobacco treatment specialists, who collaborate with a range of health professionals both at the inpatient and outpatient level. Being hospitalized at a tobacco-free campus for the tobacco user can be a challenging experience with nicotine withdrawal beginning four hours of less after last tobacco use. This can complicate many other aspects of patient care. It is imperative to respond with medications to mitigate withdrawal symptoms, as well as supportive behavioral treatment. The TCS covers University Campus, Memorial Campus, 8 East, and 3PTCS units.
