Preeti Rangaraj: "I am a senior at Algonquin Regional High School, and my interests currently lie in neurosurgery, oncology and pediatric surgery. I spent the majority of my time working with Dr. Julie Pilitsis in the neurosurgery department, researching Deep Brain Stimulation as a treatment for chronic pain. I was also able to visit departments such as pediatrics and oncology, observe a gene therapy procedure on a sheep, observe neurosurgical operations in the OR, and spend a day at the Center for Comparative Neuroimaging. I learned a lot about what the day to day work of a surgeon involves, as well as a great deal about the benefits of DBS as a treatment for Parkinson's Disease and Dystonia." |
