The Department of Psychiatry

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ first and only public Medical School, the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) was founded in 1962 to provide affordable, high quality medical education and to increase the number of primary care physicians practicing in underserved areas of the state. More than 40 years later, UMMS retains the pioneering spirit that attracted its founding faculty and students, even as it has matured to become one of the nation’s top 50 medical schools.

The Department of Psychiatry is one of the Medical School’s largest and most diverse  departments. Involved in education and training,  research, and clinical psychiatry and psychology at numerous locations, we boast a faculty of national and international distinction. Our education and training programs, research division, and clinical services include numerous programs and services for medical residents, fellows, scientists/researchers and educators, and those in need of clinical psychiatry or psychology treatment.
